Hatsubon Service and Shotsuki Hoyo

Hello.

Today was Hatsubon Service at Oregon Buddhist Temple, as well as July Shotsuki Monthly Memorial Service.

Our Three Minister's Assistants conducted the special service to commemorate those who have left us this past year. Brenda led the chant, Amidakyo, and gave us a beautiful Dharma message on memories of dear ones. Etsu gave a meaningful and positive Children's Talk, and Ken concluded the service with the reading of White Ashes.

Our Onaijin was decorated beautifully with white flowers by our flower toban. Our wonderful Choir, led by Elaine, performed two gathas. Many people got in line to do Oshoko, to burn the incense in honor of those people who have passed. The temple hall was filled with the fragrance of incense and the sad but warm memories during the service.

The service was followed by amazing potluck downstairs. We had all sorts of delicious food - from different salads, unique casseroles warmd bubbly in the oven, juicy pulled pork, lots if different pasta and rice dishes, and beautiful assortment of fruits and desserts!!

We were treated by Portland Taiko performance during the potluck!

Three drummers from Portland Taiko filled the downstairs room with the dynamic performance, giving us a glance to what they will be sharing at our Obon Festival!

Thank you to everyone who made this Special Service and Potluck possible!
